Han's Guide to the best Beaches
I grew up by the sea in Devon, and there was nothing I wanted more than to be by the sea during the recent heatwave. To feel the sea breeze in my face, smell of the salty air, sand in between my toes, swimming in the cool sea....sigh....

So below are what I think are the best beaches not far from London....

In Broadstairs, Kent, Botany is one the most photographed beaches in the UK, with it’s white cliffs and beautiful chalk stacks. Great for Fossil hunting and exploring rock pools. Botany Bay is perfect for relaxing. 1h 22 direct from St Pancras.

Camber Sands is the beach in the village of Camber near Rye, Sussex. It has five miles of unspoilt beaches and huge sand dunes, so at the busier times, you will always find that quiet spot. 1h 12 direct from St Pancras, plus 5 minute taxi to the beach.

Clacton-on-Sea in Essex is very popular with families and has something for everyone. Fishing off the pier, cruise up the Thames and a SeaQuarium. 1h 26 direct from Liverpool Street.

Sunny Sands Beach in Folkstone, Kent, holds the Folkestone Sandcastle Competition in July (due to the quality of the sand) as well as rock pools, seafood shacks and fish and chips. 55 mins direct from St Pancras.

Brighton - Of course this has to be on my list, with its bustling promenade and cosmopolitan cafes and bars, this is a beach that has been voted one of the top 10 city beach break destinations in the world. 1h 3 direct from Victoria, London Bridge or Kings Cross.
